This drawing was inspired by a little girl I saw on my Malawi missions trip in 2015. The image honestly does not do the subject justice but I did the absolute best I could.
The story of this image is the story of one of those magical moments of inspiration. I was sitting in the well drill truck, taking a minute to do my devotions, when I looked up and saw it. All the kids were kind of running around, waiving and playing and shouting, generally trying to get our attention because we were the novelty of the moment. But what I noticed was this one little girl standing off in the corner near two buildings. She had her dress off her shoulder like one of those Disney princesses and she had such big eyes. I tried to sketch her coming home on the plane and did an abysmal job of it and then kind of forgot about it. But the idea stayed in the back of my mind, and when I needed to do a portrait for GSA, I knew what I wanted to do.
Gorgeous.. the detail is amazing! What process did you use?
Thank you so much! I drew the face in pencil (with a lot of blending and erasing) and then I put in the background with soft pastel.
